Oh, Logan.

I really didn't like watching him mope around his apartment. I was even more disheartened when I watched the DVD commentary, and Rob Thomas revealed that all of the moping happened only so that Logan and Veronica could have the scene in the elevator with the little girl. Which, yes, was delightfully awkward, but I still don't think true to Logan's character.

I think my favorite part of the season was Logan walking up and smashing the police squad car with no hesitation whatsoever. ALSO, LOVED Logan beating the SHIT out of Piz, and out of the jackass Castle guy. I want there to be fanart of Logan standing over a pile of bruised bodies, saying, "See, Veronica? I DO love you!" Logan expresses feelings of love by beating people up. I find this amazing.

Like most of the series, I don't have a whole lot to say about the ending except that I loved it. Nothing was presented in a neatly gift-wrapped package for the viewer, and I appreciate that. Piz's expression made it very clear that he understood Veronica/Logan was the way things were going to end up, and I love that too.

Also love the Keith/Veronica relationship. Veronica is such a heartbreaker.

In conclusion, a great show, and I'm glad I watched it, even though it pretty much utterly consumed me these last few weeks. Once you start, you won't be able to stop.

I've been making my way through season three of Veronica Mars.

Spoilers.

After watching episode 7, "Of Vice and Men," I felt unsettled but wasn't able to put my finger on it. As always, reading critical posts written when the episodes came out are helpful! Here is coffeeandink:
Wow, I am SO GLAD that Veronica has learned to TRUST her boyfriend, because it's not like he has a history of interpersonal violence, drug use, cheating, and just generally terrible decisions that might make her wonder whether he's faithful and/or why he won't tell her what he and Mercer were doing that was so terrible Mercer'd rather be up for serial rape. I know that would blow right past my bullshit detection radar. Clearly, Veronica's suspicious nature is the big issue in this relationship.

And lest I forget I am also SO GLAD that Veronica's previous sexual trauma is handled so well and so respectfully and not completely forgotten about except when it's being used for a CHEAP EXPLOITATIVE SUSPENSE-BUILDING DEVICE. I mean, just imagine what a lesser show might have done! They might have spent an entire episode showcasing the protagonist's suspicious and mistrustful nature only to have her trustingly leave her completely uncovered drink unattended despite having been roofied before and knowing there's a roofie rapist on the loose. I sure am glad Veronica Mars would never insult my intelligence that way.

Also read the comments! Lots of bitter people, but they point out the more heinous bits of the show. It sounds like a lot of people gave up on the show at this point during the third season, but I still like the show enough to keep watching. I'm a completist, and it's not horrible.

I will agree that the writing quality has fallen a bit, and it seems like the same thing is happening that happened in latter seasons of The West Wing, in that characters are acting in ways I never thought they would (see: The Great Temptation of Keith Mars). I still love Logan, but Piz is also adorable. I want Mac to come back because I love her.

And yes, Internet, I still love Logan Echolls EVEN THOUGH he left a motel ON FIRE WITHOUT SEEING IF ANYBODY WAS OKAY. (9 out of 10 guys would have done the same thing? Bullshit.) This might have made my love for him increase. He's pretty boring while dating Veronica, though. His over-protectiveness is scary even though it makes sense given his history. I'm glad Veronica is creeped out.

Also, oh my GOD, the look on Logan's face when he tries calling Veronica while they're both in the cafeteria. Their break-up will be so epic!


Apparently, my love for fictional characters is vastly different than my respect/love for real people.

It's been a crazy couple of weeks! Two weekends ago, Jennifer came to visit, and it was pretty awesome. There was a lot of food eaten, walking done, and people seen. I'm excited to go home for Thanksgiving and see everybody.

Last night was a 1950s Halloween party, and it was also marvelous.

Today is November 1, and I'm supposed to start writing today. I've been scribbling down notes in my graphpaper and organizing stuff, but have yet to actually....write things. Hopefully that'll come soon. 1,667 words per day, that's what must be done.

Unorganized Fandom Chatter....because I am lazy.

I can see why people wouldn't like the new opening sequence because it's a change, but I think I kind of love it.

Spoilers through episode 3.4 behind the dark mass.

I love watching Logan. Find it very interesting that he didn't raise his hand when the prof asked who thought they would never do what Lynndie England did. And he didn't not raise it in an assholish way....more like he just understood what he was capable of.

Go Keith! Pen-and-bear-trap FTW. Veronica is so his daughter.

"Haha! *punches him in the arm* Oh, you."

Holy shit! Between Veronica's faux-drunken sorority dance with two other girls and her dream about Lilly fooling around with girls, I can only imagine the squeeing that happened in fandom about slashing Veronica with girls.

The prisoner experiment is interesting because we studied it in a few of my classes. Also, Rider Strong's voice sounds like the English dub version of Kyo from Fruits Basket.

HAY! I can't see all of the books, but I definitely spotted Ronald Takaki's A Different Mirror on Wallace's RA's desk. BWAHAHA.


I side with Logan on this surveillance stuff. If Veronica wants to be mad at him for not spending time with her, then she should confront him. Not saying I wouldn't do exactly as she did, given the proper technology, but hey, whatever. But if this is the tiff that leads to them breaking up (as they inevitably will), I'm going to be super pissed.

Aww, Veronica and Logan kissing on their way up to the stacks was adorable.

And as for Bleach! I saw a random DVD at the library, so I picked it up to see what the anime is like (I've been reading the manga). The anime is about what I expected....overly long. It would take forever to get through these fight scenes I don't really care about, because it's harder to skim a DVD than a book. Don't get me wrong: I like bad-ass fight animation as much as the next girl, but Byakuya's sakura of doom (is this where oyceter gets her journal subtitle?) aside, the fights are pretty boring to watch.

I think my favorite characters (when they're not being annoying) are Rukia, Orihime, Tatsuki, and Uryu Ishida.

Still, episode 16 and they're already going to Soul Society? I can't imagine how many filler episodes there must be. Frickin' a. I liked the opening a lot, though.





I only have one more physical volume to read, and then I'll have to *ahem* the volumes because I can't get them from the library any more. Maybe I'll switch back to Naruto for a little while?
How come it's Ichigo who has to get stronger to protect everyone else? Why shouldn't Orihime get stronger?


Sandy and I have been watching Fullmetal Alchemist, and watched three episodes last night, including the Barry the Chopper one. It shows me how good shounen (or is it seinen?) can be. I like watching a protagonist who is actually afraid that he's going to die, and I think FMA is bucketloads better than Naruto or Bleach. Win.

If you spoil me for ANYTHING, I'll be pretty pissed and write mean things about you in my blog.

I keep wanting to blog about Veronica Mars, but all I have is fangirl squee, and I feel embarassed when that's all I write, instead of really thought-provoking meta stuff.

WILL IT PREVENT ME FROM DOING IT? NO.

I only have discs 5 and 6 left for this season....I'm going through this show so fast! I think it's because I watched most of Buffy and Angel while I was still in school, and there was homework and stuff.

Life: It's Pretty Okay

Still watching Veronica Mars. Still in love with my same character (now with a GUN and sarcastic quip!).

Still reading Bleach manga, now on volume 18. It took a few volumes, but Bleach had now devolved into the same main issue I had with Naruto: There are too many damn characters for me to keep track of, or care about. Seriously, in the last "Who won the most popular character award?!" there were over 60 characters! How can that be?!

I don't know. I miss Ichigo's sisters, his father, and Tatsuki. I like Tatsuki being with Orihime. I like it better when everybody's in school than when they're in this Soul Society, meeting three new characters every single chapter (which are pretty damn short, I might say!). But I'll keep reading anyway. Still, Fullmetal Alchemist taunts me. I can only take so much action manga at once, though!


Caught up on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles last night. Is everyone watching this show?! You should be! Totally awesome. Bridget made meatballs and marinara sauce and put them in subs, homemade fries, and tiramisu. I think I professed my love for her at least ten times. While admiring the candles on her tables, she said, "I'm domestic as fuck, man." IT IS SO TRUE. Good times with Bridget and Sandy.

So, I'm feeling really lately, or something. Why write my own analysis of episodes when everybody else has does it already? GOOD QUESTION. So I looked on LiveJournal, as one does when looking for epic posts of meta amazingness. I'M GLAD THAT EVERYONE LIKES MY FAVORITE CHARACTER, TOO.

For your reading pleasure, I cut out my favorite parts of each post, but all of the posts are amazing! And you should read them, too!

Shit like this is what I love about the Internet and media-viewing. I'm watching this three years after all of these posts were written, but I feel this amazing sense of community and "OMG ME TOO!"

My package from Johanna arrived. A DVD of Millennium Actress, a high-quality anime movie! Buying stuff from Johanna is awesome because she sticks other goodies in the packaging. When I bought Escaflowne, there was an amazing CLAMP notebook, with pictures of Kamui, Fuma, Sakura, and Syaoran. There is more Sakura in this one, along with a cute paper with illustrations from the series Full Moon. Whee! I have some Satoshi Kon-spreading to do....Apparently, The Boyfriend has never seen Tokyo Godfathers or Millennium Actress! This is a travesty that must be corrected.

I apparently lost the software disc for my mp3 player, which is unfortunate, as the program was erased from my computer when I reloaded Windows (twice). Without the software, the player won't even charge, let alone allow me to arrange and upload music to the device. I thought I found the place to get the software here, but every link I try on that page tells me something about needing a 64-bit connection or some such thing. I just want to listen to music in my car, ;_;

Please enjoy my beautimous new LJ layout.

I tried to make a custom mood theme last night, but it didn't work, :/ I uploaded the pictures to my LJ gallery....can you not link to LJ images? Even from within LJ? That seems pretty silly to me! I need a new image-hosting service anyway, though. I've been using my University's for the last four years, but I'm obviously not a student any more.


I still have follow-up Geek.Kon posts to make.

For now, I have a few hobby-related goals:
1) Read more novels. It's been scientifically proven that nothing will impair my manga-reading habits, so I think I'm just going to spend more time focusing on novels while at work, and not worry that I "won't have time for" manga. Today, I've been tearing through Octavia Butler's Dawn, first in the Xenogenesis trilogy, which we are reading this month for Wiscon book club. I also have piles of unread books, now including the books recommended by Sarah Monette, not to mention Sarah Monette's own books!

2) Watch more anime. I kind of miss it, and I think I've now figured out that I can get TV shows like Arrested Development from the library, and should use my Netflix account for watching anime series.


Last night, I watched the first three episodes of Veronica Mars. It was pretty good, I think I'll enjoy watching this show. Please don't spoil me! I'm sure I've picked up a few spoilers through LJ-osmosis, but overall, I know nothing. I'll be glad to watch this series for fun, and don't really feel the need to blog extensively about it, as most have you have either seen it or already heard of it.

For now.....LOL to the Paris Hilton guest role in episode two. Isn't the canon couple from this series Veronica/Logan? He's such an asshole! So far, the only redeemable quality they've established is the way he's stood up to the biker gang. For now, I really appreciate the biker gang vs. preppy Orange County boys. And, of course, Veronica herself. WIN.
